The Eye-Fi Wireless Memory Card

I read about this new gadget about couple of years ago, but I didn't have a need for it as much because I didn't have a smartphone at the time. But now that I have a smartphone and an unlimited data plan, this thing is pretty cool to have. In order to understand the tremendous potential it provides, here's a scenario...

Let's say you and your family are on vacation trip somewhere cool. And you're taking a lot of pictures of awesome things. Somewhere else, your mom is sitting at home in front of a computer, checking out your Flickr photo albums and suddenly the new photos appear. In all this time, you're busy having a good time with your family capturing the moments in photos and video. When you come home from your vacation, all your photos and videos are already backed up and available to share online. Without the need of wires or transferring the memory card!

It takes a bit of setup to accomplish this, but once everything is in place, you can just let the Eye-Fi card do all the work. I know you're probably thinking that this can already be done with a smartphone, but that can be a drain on battery, especially if you want to take a lot of photos. And sometimes a mobile phone doesn't have the range of features that good camera has.With this type of setup, I can take plenty of photos and be comforted to know that they're at a good quality.
